Mein High School Year 2007/08

Viele Gruesse! Eure Caeci ;-)

Big turnout at park walk

SOUTHPORT residents turned out in their droves to support the annual Breakthrough Breast Cancer Crocus Walk on Saturday, with more than 50 walkers taking part in the event at Hesketh Park.

The walk, which consisted of laps around the park, was branded a success by all who attended and featured the participation of Southport actor and star of 'Heartbeat', David Lonsdale.

The aim of the event was to raise money for research into breast cancer and at the moment is said to have raised in the region of £1,000, with sponsor money still coming in.

Cambridge Ward councillor Sue McGuire, who co-organised the event, said: "It was a fantastic day, with immense support from across Southport. I was delighted by the turnout and the participation of David Lonsdale and his family.

"I think that an event like this acknowledges sufferers and those affected by breast cancer, as it touches so many lives. It is an emotional event, which is a tribute to those lost and a chance to raise funds for vital research for sufferers of the future."

Cllr Lord Ronnie Fearn and wife Joyce were also in attendance to show support for the event, in which they have been actively involved since the initial crocus walk six years ago.

Sue Maguire said: "It was a real community day, with local residents, David Lonsdale and his family and also St John Ambulance all pulling together in aid of charity. It was such a success and a considerable sum has been raised for such a worthy cause."
